How to Exchange Corporate Data Securely
Data has become one of most valuable and easily traded currencies–which also means that it’s the most sought-after target of some shady people. It’s more important than ever to exchange corporate data in a secure way.
A company must consider every entry point possible in order to protect information from unauthorized access. This includes physical security of storage devices, as well the logic-based security used to control access to folders and files.
The internal business processes of a business and the manner in which information is shared with outside entities play a significant role in stopping data breaches. The method an organization uses to share data between departments, whether via email, unprotected cloud storage, or a VPN, can pose serious security risks.
Despite the best efforts, it is impossible to completely protect a business from all dangers. Hackers are always trying to get past firewalls, trick people to click on a phishing email attachment or steal data that’s accidentally stored on physical storage devices.
Companies should make an inventory of all their systems in order to find out where sensitive information might be stored in a database. This includes examining personal devices, computers, flash drives, and digital copiers. Businesses should also ensure that they encrypt all information stored on external media before using it. This will help prevent sensitive information from being downloaded onto devices if they are lost or stolen.
